The story of Neural Odyssey began long before the project’s official debut.

In the late 1990s, the project’s creator, from Trieste, Italy, played electric guitar in a local band. Within a few years, as often happens, the members went their separate ways, bringing that musical journey to an end. The instruments remained untouched for many years until the decision was made to sell them, believing it was better to give them a new life than let them gather dust. Looking back, it would become one of the few regrets of that period.

In 2015, a growing passion for Celtic culture led him into the world of historical reenactment. For several years, this experience provided the opportunity to explore Celtic culture first-hand, studying not only historical sources but also its practical aspects, including clothing, equipment, construction techniques, folklore, and everyday life. It was during 2018 and 2019 that the first ideas began to take shape, ideas that would eventually, and quite unexpectedly, evolve into the Neural Odyssey project.

The arrival of the pandemic suddenly changed those plans. The historical reenactment group lost many of its members, making it increasingly difficult to continue its activities. Personal projects inevitably took a back seat, and those early ideas remained in a drawer for several years.

Everything changed in 2023 with the arrival of artificial intelligence. Although the first experiments were little more than humorous content and tutorials exploring this new technology, the first musical compositions soon followed using the early versions of Suno and Udio. It was the rapid evolution of the latter that rekindled a passion which had long seemed to belong to the past.

To explore the possibilities of these new tools, two long symphonic metal suites were created: Caput Adriae (32 minutes) and Vercingetorix (28 minutes). These works became a testing ground for complex song structures, orchestration, and a musical language that would later evolve into the more mature and cohesive album Echoes of the Ancient Grove, released on October 31, 2024. The album marks the true beginning of Neural Odyssey and features nine tracks inspired by Celtic mythology.

The band itself also came together naturally. At first there was no defined line-up: some characters had originated from previous creative projects, while others were created simply to meet the needs of the first music videos. During the production of Cernunnos, proving that necessity is often the mother of invention, the project’s current line-up gradually took shape.

Today, those characters have evolved into the five members of the virtual band: Zenithra, Astra, Zoe, Oscar, and Kane, each with a distinct personality and a specific role within the ever-expanding universe of Neural Odyssey.
